Here’s an interesing interview with Bruce Schneier, author of Applied Cryptography, Secrets and Lies, and Beyond Fear. You can read a transcript or listen to an MP3 of the interview.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • It’s a waste of resources to spend resources to secure a single point of attack like airplanes or trains, terrorists will just attack someplace else that isn’t guarded.
  • All the big anti-terror projects (national id card, face recognition, fingerprinting at customs) are a waste of resources. We should be concentrating on improving our ability to gather intelligence and respond quickly to future attacks with emergency services.
  • Complex systems fail complexly (very applicable to me at this moment)
  • Be on the lookout for what you’re not looking out for (very applicable to me at this moment as well)
