Everyone’s (or atleast me and Oleg) favorite cyborg Steve Mann was interviewed recently on NPR. It’s very interesting stuff.

And he is a legitimate cyborg now, he has implants in his body which measure his life signs and give him a head up display of how his body is doing at all times, pretty wild. But the question is, do you really want to know this all the time? My body does a good job keeping me aware of how it’s doing without a HUD most of the time. Another way to think about it is to imagine if you had to consiously direct the response of your immune system to every pathogen it encounters. You wouldnt be able to think about anything but that, since your immune system is constantly responding to invaders all the time without your having to be involved.

Something to say?
