Here’s a satellite picture of New Orleans before and after Hurricane Katrina. You can clearly see the flooding from Lake Pontchartrain. Unbelievable.

So Google has come out with their own IM system, Google Talk. I haven’t tried out the windows client yet, but one of the nice things about Google Talk is that they use the Open Source Jabber/XMPP protocol, and include instructions for connecting to Google Talk with other party IM clients like my favorite, Adium.
